We've got a heaping ton of Nintendo news today. Let's start off with the 3DS. It was announced, that this August Nintendo will be releasing the 3DS XL. And yes, you guessed it, XL means extra large.
This new and improved 3DS will be 46% larger than its predecessor and have a 90% larger screen. Yeah, I'm sure that math makes sense. It will even have a longer battery life, or so it says with a 3 and a half hours to 6 hours of game time. But that's what we were getting with the first 3DS. So, egh. And all of this for the small price of 199.99. But I was very surprised to see that it didn't have a circle pad pro attached to it. And if you were on that insanely long wait list for the first one, due to the size, it won't be compatible with this one. So you will need a new one to play games like the Metal Gear game or Resident Evil. Again, egh.
Next, up it was announced that the new Super Smash Bros game for the Wii U and 3DS is now going to be developed by Namco Bandai. Now yes, this company can put out some fun games but with Playstation All-Stars being released this year, will the new Smash Bros have a seemless enough transition with a new developer to be able to compete with Sony's similar title? Personally, after playing All-Stars, Namco will need to bring their A game to compete.
Finally, for those of you who remember, back in January, Nintendo said that the Wii U will have a Holiday 2012 release date. Well the developer Two Tribes said that we'll "probably" be seeing it on store shelves this November. Now we don't know if this is an international release or an American release. Personally, I think it'll be a world wide release. Nintendo has done well with November console releases already. Yep, the wii was a November release and did phenomally with it's holiday sales. Mix that with the new 3DS release this year, and we can assume Nintendo will dominate every kids Christmas wish list.
So what do you guys think of all this Nintendo news? Will you be picking up the Wii U or the 3DS XL? And lets not forget about Namco taking the reigns for the new Smash Bros.
