- Kevin Eastman Interview
What's up next for our heroes in a half shell? MTV sat down with 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' co-creator Kevin Eastman to find out!
There have been a lot of questions surrounding the upcoming reboot of this beloved franchise, such as: Will this suck less than the dismal 1991 sequel "Secret of the Ooze"? Why was production halted and the release date pushed back? And, What was that about aliens, Michael Bay?! You'll remember that last question blowing up when executive producer Michael Bay announced that in his version of TMNT the turtles would be aliens instead of innocent baby turtles struck by radioactive ooze. Kevin Eastman, who co-created the original comic book series with Peter Laird, calmed fan outrage by backing the change, and now he's back to answer the rest of our questions, too!
So how will this new take on the turtles compare to previous films? Eastman had nothing but good news on that front, assuring us that he has been working closely with director Jonathan Liebesman and this reboot is "easily the best 'Turtle' movie yet." Eastman is predicting "'Raid: Redemption'-style fight scenes" and "epic 'Rise of the Planet of the Apes' sort of effects," although the question of using motion capture to render the characters is still up in the air. Sounds pretty sweet, but what about the release date -- will the movie be postponed indefinitely? No worries there either, Eastman claims. The move from December 2013 to May 2014 was simply intended to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the original comic book series.
Well, from the sound of that we're definitely on board, but what do you guys think? Drop us a line in the comments and check out the full interview for some great tidbits on Casey Jones and TMNT's connection to 'Daredevil' (who knew?). I'm Dana Ward, thanks for tuning in to ClevverMovies!
