Tangible media of the Media Lab has been working on this for more than fifteen years. Mark Weiser and his concept of ubiquitous data processing opened us up to new absolutely fascinating possibilities.Recently, thanks to tools like Arduinos cards, all types of sensors (pressure, accelerometers, gyroscope, etc.) and software like Processing, Java, Flash, etc. prototypes can be developed very quickly in order to concretely validate ideas.We have noticed after years of promises of less need for hardware, that we actually need physical feedback in our interfaces linked to the IT system. We need to touch, press, and feel the interface to be able to feel an actual connection to it.If we take reading on a digital device (iPad, Kindle, etc.) as an example, we have the amazing possibility to instantly read virtual billions of books. But why lose the sensation of turning a page, the texture of the paper, and the sound of the page if they are all part of the enjoyment of reading?Why do digital contributions have to deprive us of something full of sensations in the physical world? Can't we save the tangible advantages in our digital and connected world?

Depuis plus de quinze ans, le Tangible media du Media Lab travaille sur ce principe. Mark Weiser et son concept d'informatique ubiquitaire nous ont donné de nouvelles directions absolument passionnantes.Récemment, grâce à des outils comme les cartes Arduinos, des capteurs de toutes sortes (de pression, accéléromètres, gyroscope...) et des logiciels comme Processing, Java, Flash... permettent de développer des prototypes très rapidement afin de valider concrètement des idées.Nous nous apercevons après ces années de promesse de dématérialisation que nous avons besoin de retour physique dans nos interfaces liées à l’informatique. Nous avons besoin de toucher, de caresser, de presser, de sentir pour ressentir.Si nous prenons par exemple la lecture sur support numérique (iPad, lisseuse, Kindle), nous avons la fabuleuse possibilité de lire virtuellement instantanément des milliards d'ouvrages mais pourquoi perdre la sensation de tourner une page, la texture du papier, le son de la page si porteurs de sens et de plaisir ?Pourquoi l'apport du numérique nous enlève à chaque fois quelque chose dans le monde physique riche de sensations ? Ne peut-on pas imaginer de garder les avantages du tangible dans notre monde numérique et connecté ?

The idea of the intervention is to set the recent technological innovations back in light of the social bond transformations, through the analysis of the social imaginaries.Thus we must show that the majority of successes of services, interfaces or technological objects take into account and optimize social transformations that characterize new ways of construction and expression of the identity, confidence and large contemporary societal appetitions. La mutation des imaginaires technologiques. Comment les mutations sociétales portent les innovations technologiques ?Sociologue, chercheur et enseignant au Centre d’Etude sur l’Actuel et le Quotidien, à l’Université Descartes-Sorbonne, Stéphane Hugon dirige un groupe de recherche sur la technologie et le Quotidien dans une perspective d’étude des usages. Il est également membre de l’équipe enseignante de l’IDN de l’Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs de Paris, où il enseigne la sociologie de l’imaginaire en post-diplôme.Stéphane Hugon est également cofondateur du cabinet Eranos, une société d’étude et de conseil dans le décryptage des imaginaires technologiques contemporains et l’accompagnement à l’innovation dans le domaine technologique et industriel.
