Being There by Anders Weberg and Robert Willim
http://www.beingthere.se Anders Weberg // Video Robert Willim // Sound Duration: 6min40sec Tourism is growing in many parts of the world. Curious people, with bags and cameras, are in search of various exciting experiences. Places of interest are visited and documented. An important ingredient of the tourism industry is the concept of authenticity and the lure of the unique. But the question is: What would be the most authentic experience? Attractive places are targets for more than travel agencies. This art project twists the authenticity hunt. We offer a number of audiovisual excursions beneath the gloss of the tourism rhetoric. Six films, imagining six places. It is an attempt to disclose the nervous system that is underlying tourist experiences. The places we have chosen are high density, they are tourist magnets and global hotspots. They are places associated with pleasure, but also with terror. With the shortfilms coupled to the different places we want to examine the tension between pleasure and fear. The films are made solely from clips out of tourist movies and similar material. The clips have been twisted into a surreal atmosphere. And the sound accompanying the visuals are based on manipulations of one or two sounds that are often used to give stereotypical associations to the various places, eg. demo sounds from sample libraries. The audiovisual whole express an evocative imaginary geography.

The film is made solely from Yokohama-related audio and video found on the web. This material has been manipulated and composed into a suggestive imaginary journey through an estranged landscape. Mediaterrae - Irpinia Electronic Landscape Together with Robert Willim I was invited to the residence project "Mediaterrae Vol.1 - Irpinia Electronic Landscape", which is a project that aims at a cultural and territorial promotion and at an audio /video production. Fourteen international artists was selected and hosted in Irpinia for a period of five days (from the 19th to the 23rd February 2007). The participants spent some days in the little town of Montemarano during its suggestive and peculiar carnival, while MediaTerrae Crew followed the artists in order to document the project. The residence project was combined with a live event at Teatro Gesualdo in Avellino and will also resulted in the production of a DVD. The DVD, including seven tracks which combines audio and video art made by the participants, as well as a documentary about the project, is freely distributed (10.000 circulation copies) with the July-August issue of the Italian magazine Blow-Up. "Stich der Tarantel" is the artpiece we made for the DVD with music made by Burnt Friedman. At the live event in Avellino we presented a longer verson (50min) of this artwork, which was combined with a liveset by Burnt Friedman and Jaki Liebezeit. The event was produced by Gal Verde Irpinia in collaboration with Media Terrae film commission.
