In 1944, 44 allied nations met at a resort in Bretton Woods, New Hampshire, to fiddle with monetary standards, fix exchange rates, and create the IMF and World Bank. “Launching a remake of this old model — particularly in such a short time, with so many new participants — would represent a daunting challenge at any time, but particularly during the twilight of the Bush presidency and the crisis that is still jolting banks and stock markets around the world,” reports the Post.
"Certainly, the elite cooked up an appropriate global crisis, now they will engage in a full court press to establish a global currency and eventually a global government." A California congressman opposed to the Bush administration’s bailout package said “the sky did not fall” after the House rejected the bill, despite consternations from “Wall Street fear mongers.” Rep. During an interview with the Des Moines Register editorial board yesterday, John McCain - presumably making an attempt at humor - said with a completely straight face that he aspired to be a dictator, while decrying the Congressional rejection of the bailout bill.
Never Believed in that Reptilian Crap, But WTF is this?' I stumbled across this scoop today and began looking further into the claim that Bush had Vertical Pupils During His Warning Over Bail-Out Delay today on tv. In a clip from MSNBC, I was able to zoom in and see verticle pupils. I don't know, but he sure does seem to be not quite right. Reptilian maybe? You tell me. PASADENA, Calif. -- NASA's Phoenix Mars Lander has detected snow falling from Martian clouds. Spacecraft soil experiments also have provided evidence of past interaction between minerals and liquid water, processes that occur on Earth. A laser instrument designed to gather knowledge of how the atmosphere and surface interact on Mars has detected snow from clouds about 4 kilometers (2.5 miles) above the spacecraft's landing site. Data show the snow vaporizing before reaching the ground.
The discovery of a makeshift jail in Denver's warehouse district is causing outrage among some protesters. The jail was apparently constructed to house protesters during the Democratic National Convention but the city never publicly announced plans to construct this kind of facility. Members of the group Recreate '68 are calling the detention center "Denver's inhumane and dirty little secret," "Guantanamo Bay on the Platte" or "Gitmo on the Platte." The warehouse is just feet from the South Platte River. The jail is made up of large fenced-in cages with razor wire on top. The city said those cages are for the safety of law enforcement agents and those who are arrested. Activists call it a concentration camp unfit and inappropriate for human detainees.
It's the beginning of a new inspection of the 5th Bomb Wing's ability to handle nuclear weapons properly. The week-long inspection is actually a re-test for the wing that flies B-52 bombers. The wing failed an earlier test when training and discipline were found to be lacking. The inspections began after last August's incident in which six missiles armed with nuclear weapons were mistakenly flown from Minot Air Force Base to Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana. Minot and Barksdale are the only bases in the nation which are home to B-52 bombers.

Russians move 2 SS-21 Tactical Nuke Ballistic Missile Launchers into South Ossetia Col. Sam Gardiner notes, in an interview with Amy Goodman on Democracy Now, Russia has deployed tactical nuclear weapons to South Ossetia. The SS-21 Missile launchers are relatively weak compared to bombs that have already been used against Georgia by the Russian air force. However, this move does indicate Russia is potentially upping the game from a conventional weapons war to a tactical nuclear More..weapons war. Gardiner notes that at a news conference on Sunday, the US Deputy National Security advisor has noted these weapons arriving in South Ossetia.
