Have you ever had a dream of setting up a video studio in your home? Whether you're aiming for YouTube stardom, or just a better setup for your Google Hangouts, having a dedicated space can make a huge difference. Here's a first look at my project to build a studio in my garage - this is where I'm now shooting installments of Geeks and Gear.
We're into the third week of our #GeekFit fitness program, and we invited our trainers, Todd Abrams and Jeff Dwelle, back into the studio to talk about how things are going and answer your questions! Grab a protein drink, hit the Play button, and check out what they had to say.
Can your door make decisions on its own about who to admit to your home? It can if it's equipped with Chui, the intelligent doorbell. This system, currently in development. can scan the face of the person at the door, compare it to a list of people you know, and either play an audio message for them or unlock the door. We talked to the team behind Chui to find out how our doors will be locked (and opened) in the near future.
Moritz Tolxdorff is the creator of the Hangout Toolbox found in Google Hangouts and he's a geek of the first order! So what are his favorite gadgets? We got all the info in our conversation with him.
We've talked about a lot of portable interface devices, but sometimes you want a permanent solution for your home or studio that you can plug into a really nice sound system, then plug in your iPad and start recording. The Griffin StudioConnect fills that role, letting your iPad be the controller for your recording session while also acting as a 10-watt charging dock for the iPad.The Griffin StudioConnect retails for $149, but you can get it at Amazon for $100.http://amzn.to/Q8jMJj
We get cool stuff in for review every week, and we're giving you an advance look at some of our favorite gear that's currently on our desks! Keep an eye out for the full reviews!

We're unboxing the Thecus 8810U-G Rackmount NAS Server. One of the things that caught my attention with the Thecus was its price point: At about $2000, it's quite affordable for its capabilities which include 10Gig-E connectivity. It's a good-looking unit with aluminum grab rails mounted on the front and 8 drive bays inside. We'll be bringing you a full review soon, so stay tuned!
