Harvest Moon Local Food Initiative
You may have an accountant, a doctor, or even a lawyer, but do you have a farmer - someone you can identify as providing you or your family with local, safe, healthy and nutritious food? The Harvest Moon Local Food Initiative is a group of 10 farm families and 2 family-owned meat shops located in the beautiful Pembina Valley in southwestern Manitoba who believe: in healthy land and healthy communities; that everyone should have access to local, tasty and healthy farm fresh food; farmers should be paid a fair price for growing this food; in a more small-scale, sustainable and fair food system that better serves the interests of the land, our families and local communities; and that we all have an important role to play in order to make this happen, including you! We are committed to BEING YOUR FARMERS!
Good Food Club
Directors/Editors: Laura Barz, Breanne Reinfort and Matthew VeenmanFood security exists when all people at all times have access to as much safe and nutritious food as they need in order to meet their dietary needs for an active and healthy life. The Good Food Club is a unique initiative centred in Winnipeg’s West Broadway that works with members of the community to provide community cafes, fresh food boxes, local farming opportunities, and a community vegetable market. These events provide opportunities for participants to work in exchange for ‘sweat equity points’ that can be redeemed for healthy food. By farming together, cooking together, eating together, telling stories and sharing ideas, they are working on building a healthy and food-secure community in West Broadway.
