Hunts on our roads - Ireland
When hunts come on to public roads, they cause inconvenience and potential danger to motorists and other road users. If you spot a hunt blocking a road or interfering with the freeflow of traffic, please immediately report the incident to the Gardai.
The cruelty of pheasant shooting
A former shooter describes pheasant shooting as "a very cruel pastime" on RTE Radio's Liveline programme (January 3rd, 2012).He told listeners that "a high proportion of the birds are not killed" when shot and instead suffer agonising injuries."Yesterday, I came across a pheasant dragging its wings along the ground, unable to fly because somebody had shot it and not killed it," he said. "Two days previously, I came across a pheasant with its entrails dragging along the ground and obviously in agony because somebody had shot it and not killed it."Outlining that he was a shooter for 40 years and a former chairman of a local gun club, he stated that "the pheasants pay an extraordinarily high price for our fun and so-called sport."Help protect pheasants and other birds and animals. Make your land off-limits to hunters and shooters. Encourage all your landowner friends and family to make their land a haven for wildlife.

Drag hunting
Drag hunting is the humane alternative to hunting with hounds. Instead of chasing a live animal, the pack of hounds follow a scent laid along the ground by members of the hunt. Some draghunts use a cloth soaked in aniseed, animal urine and paraffin and this is dragged across the countryside before the start of the "hunt".Draghunts which use bloodhounds simply follow the scent of a human on foot. There are several drag hunts operating in Ireland at present. Drag hunting is also sometimes practised by existing hunting groups - either as a way to exercise the hounds or in addition to their blood sport activities. The same hounds are used in both, proving that the transition from cruelty to compassion, which most Irish citizens desire, is very simple to arrange. Drag hunting is the future for hunting in Ireland.Join our campaign today at www.banbloodsports.com. Thank you.

Irish Wildlife - Badgers
Despite being a "protected species", the badger is one of Ireland's most persecuted creatures. A major killer of this gentle and social animal is the Department of Agriculture. Under licence from the National Parks and Wildlife Service, the Department has cruelly snared tens of thousands of badgers to date in a so-called TB-eradication scheme that has been slammed as "slaughter masquerading as science".Join our appeal to the Irish Government to stop this cruel assault on the badger species. Click on Campaigns at www.banbloodsports.com for urgent action alerts. Thank you. Thanks to Peter Akokan for the video footage.

Drag Coursing
Drag coursing, in which dogs chase an artificial plastic lure, eliminates the hare suffering associated with live hare coursing.Every coursing season in Ireland, hares suffer the stress of being removed from their habitats, thrown into boxes and confined in enclosures for weeks and months.During coursing, hares suffer the fear of running for their lives in front of greyhounds. The hares that are hit suffer life-threatening internal injuries. Among the injuries are broken bones and dislocated hips. Hares may also die from stress-related capture myopathy, days and weeks after re-release back to the wild. The footage in this video was filmed in the US.Music "DLDN Instrumental" thanks to TimbermanJoin our campaign to secure a ban on hare coursing:Click on "Campaigns" at www.banbloodsports.comPlease consider supporting our work with a donation - Click on the Paypal button at www.banbloodsports.comThank you for your support.
