100 Years of Public Power Celebration
Wake Forest began providing electricity to its residents on Nov. 11, 1909. The Town celebrated 100 years as a public power provider during a special luncheon celebration on Nov. 12, 2009. Featured speakers were Town Manager Mark Williams, Mayor Vivian Jones, ElectriCities CEO Graham Edwards, and Utilities Director Mike Barton.

Welcome to E. Carroll Joyner Park
E. Carroll Joyner Park is one of Wake Forest’s most treasured resources. Located just minutes from the heart of town, the park serves as a natural oasis, an important source of green space, and an integrated ecosystem where humans and nature interact. Distinguished by its large menu of recreational activities and its natural beauty, the park is a popular place to picnic, play a favorite sport, and wander along the seemingly endless trails. Construction of the site began in May of 2008, and the park officially opened to the public on August 1st 2009. Attention to detail and commitment to innovative planning, spurred Joyner Park's transformation from an old farm, to a beautifully crafted natural oasis.

And finally, the Wake Forest’s Human Relations Council is sponsoring the 4th annual Good Neighbor Day on September 20. Local author Carol Pelosi talks about her book that chronicles the people, places and events of Wake Forest's first 100 years. Last year the Wake Forest Board of Commissioners voted to change the town's sanitation billing policy. We'll explain why that's good news for most of Wake Forest's residential sanitation customers; and finally, the Town of Wake Forest recently held the grand re-opening of Taylor Street Park. We’ll take you out to the park and show you why it's another important success of the Northeast Neighborhood Plan.

In Focus - Engraved Brick Pavers
Wake Forest is celebrating its 100th anniversary throughout 2009 with a once-in-a-lifetime Centennial Celebration! The year-long celebration is designed to commemorate the wonderful history and tradition of our town. As an important part of our Centennial Celebration, the 2009 Wake Forest Centennial Celebration Committee is pleased to offer local businesses, civic organizations, and residents a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to "be a part of history" and support the 2009 Wake Forest Centennial Celebration by purchasing an engraved brick paver for $100. Each engraved brick will become a permanent part of Centennial Plaza - located just outside the new town hall - to be viewed and enjoyed by residents and visitors for years to come. Centennial Plaza will serve as a focal point of the municipal campus and a gateway to the new town hall, which is set to be completed in the fall of 2009.
