Allegorithmic | Making Of Namacius
Namacius is a map for Unreal tournament 3 built with Unreal Editor. Two teams of players fight in a gothic surroundings, comprised of natural features (caves and tunnels) and ruins (mausoleum and crypt). In the middle stands the Cathedral, underneath which both teams will meet for a final shoot-out! Entirely made by the Allegorithmic demo team, Namacius showcases the quality of the procedural textures. In their procedural format, the 233 maps fit in just 270 KB. They are rendered in just a few seconds at load time, directly into video memory, for a total volume of 257 MB (DXT1 and DXT5 compression). This amounts to a compression ratio of 500:1. Allegorithmic's products fit extremely well in an existing production pipeline, with 3D modelers such as 3DSMax and Maya as well as 3D game engines such as Unreal Engine from Epic and Gamebryo from Emergent.
