Activision concerned for PlayStation 4 and Xbox Infinity, Epic Games reveals Sony and Microsoft’s heavy involvement in free-to-play with next generation consoles, and an “AMAZING big title” teased for PlayStation Vita, THIS IS NICK’S GAMING VIEW!
Hello everyone and welcome to Nick’s Gaming View, you are here with your host, Nick McCandless. With the PlayStation 4 confirmed for this holiday season and the next Xbox rumored to be named, Infinity, likely to launch around the same time, hype for the next-generation consoles is at its highest, at least in the eyes of gamers. Bobby Kotick, President and CEO of Activision, has spoken out on his concern during an investor’s meeting commenting on the many unknown factors including price, launch dates, consumer purchase intent, and more. Kotick also expressed his concern in the uprising popularity of smartphones and tablets and the conflict of competition with new platforms that didn’t exist with the launch of the current PlayStation and Xbox. While I understand there are a variety of unknown factors, which will play a large role in the success of the PlayStation 4 and next Xbox, considering the hype built around the next-generation of consoles from Sony and Microsoft, I don’t see either platform following the poor performance of Nintendo’s Wii U.
Continuing on next-generation consoles, Mark Rein, Vice President of Epic Games, has spoken out on the free-to-play business model revealing developer’s heavy integration of the model with the PlayStation 4 and next Xbox. Raising concern for many gamers, including myself, hope lies that microtransactions will not be the new standard within the realm of gaming and considering Sony has confirmed they are working on a free-to-play release, I sure hope to see positive execution implemented.
Wrapping up Nick’s Gaming View, Senior Business Development Manager at Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, Shahid Ahmad, tweeted a tease regarding an upcoming PlayStation Vita release “Oh and there is an AMAZING big title coming to Vita. I can’t tell you anything about it, except that you are gonna be hooked for hours.” Shahid later confirmed in a reply that the game is not an indie release, so will the tease unfold at E3? I will admit I am somewhat interested, but with the poor performance of the handheld, I have my doubts that the game will actually succeed.
Well that concludes today’s episode of Nick’s Gaming View but be sure to follow me on Twitter @NickMcCandless and check back daily for Nick’s Gaming View for your daily access pass to all things gaming.
