Roy Ayers - Running Away

This 9-song Roy Ayers concert was recorded on November 15, 1994 at the Ohne Filter studios in Baden-Baden, Germany. His performance effortlessly combines hot rhythm and blues, cool jazz, popular dance grooves, intricate improvisations, Afro roots and urban US sounds. He was part of the New York Jazz community in the sixties and many years later he now finds himself name-checked and sampled by young protagonists of Hip Hop and Acid Jazz. Roy Ayers is a genuine music guru who has been honored by his colleagues and music connoisseurs with titles such as the King of Neo-Soul and the Godfather of Groove. This DVD is proof that he is perhaps the greatest vibraphonist of all time.

His songs have been sampled by dozens of groups including A Tribe Called Quest, Brand Nubian, X-Clan, Big Daddy Kane, Erykah Badu, Mary J. Blige, the Notorious BIG, Foxy Brown and Sean "Puffy" Combs. His signature blend of smooth vibes, mother wit lyrics, classic bottom, and dashes of saxophones, keyboards and wordly percussion, is a reflection of his eclectic brilliance.
