http://blogs.orange-business.com/enterprising-business/series/leweb12/I managed to catch the French Minister of Digital, Fleur Pellerin, for a quick video interview at #LeWeb. Her minders didn't seem too keen on allowing a Le Santo pirate near their charge but that didn't deter me. I jumped in and got my two minutes with the minister. I asked her how important digital is to the French economy, her answer was “vital”. Watch the video to witness our encounter.
http://blogs.orange-business.com/enterprising-business/series/leweb12/I stopped by the PayPal stand at LeWeb12 for a quick demo of their new check-in app. Such an app is not new, we've had stuff like Foursquare for some while. The current crop of check-in apps have been widely criticised for being of no practical use. When I approached the guys at PayPal and asked them about their check-in service, asking if it was like Foursquare, they quipped "yes, only our app is actually useful". Is this the first of a new wave of location check-in apps with a practical benefit to the user? Watch this short video demo of the PayPal check-in app and decide for yourself.
There's a prevailing image of the modern entrepreneur; young, brash, male, geeky and loaded. Think Mark Zuckerberg. Now think again. It's a mere stereotype and, as with most stereotypes, it's inaccurate. I spoke to Paul-Francois Fournier, who's a judge in the start-up competition at LeWeb12, about what he looks for in a good start up. Watch the video to find out more.
http://blogs.orange-business.com/enterprising-business/2012/12/dalton-caldwell-from-appnet-about-medias-race-to-zero-at-leweb.htmlDalton Caldwell is the creator of app.net, a unique social media service that it has no ads and doesn't sell your data. Are we so fed up with targeted advertising and big groups harvesting and selling our data that the subscription model can work? Dalton thinks so and I agree.Instead he is relying on a subscription model trying to make his business sustainable. Watch the video, it represents an interesting if short discussion about the sustainability of modern media.
