Japan and South Korea condemn North's rocket launch
PLEASE NOTE, THIS EDIT CONTAINS CONVERTED 4:3 MATERIAL In the Japanese resort island of Ishigaki, sighs of relief met the news that North Korea's rocket launch had failed. Missile launchers were positioned in case the rocket exploded over Japanese territories. But it reached only around 100 km, and crashed into the sea about a minute after take-off. (SOUNDBITE) (Japanese) 32-YEAR-OLD TOURIST, YUKI SUEMATSU, CARRYING HER BABY AND SAYING: "I came here on holiday and I was still a bit worried today. But in the end nothing happened so I feel relieved." Japan's parliament voted unanimously for a resolution condemning North Korea for its action. (SOUNDBITE) (Japanese) JAPANESE PRIME MINISTER YOSHIHIKO NODA SAYING: "Today's launch is not something our nation can accept. We strongly protest North Korea and hereby express our anger. According to the resolution that was just passed, the Japanese government will urge North Korea to abide by all United Nations resolutions and strongly demand that North Korea show us a detailed progress plan and act toward solving the nuclear, missile and abduction issues." South Korean president Lee Myung Bak held an emergency meeting following the rocket launch, and Foreign Minister Kim Sung-Hwan said the North must take responsibility. (SOUNDBITE) (Korean) SOUTH KOREAN FOREIGN MINISTER KIM SUNG-HWAN SAYING: "Our government is strongly condemning North Korea's new leadership for enforcing the rocket launch despite the international society's united request to withdraw the launch. The North must take due responsibility for this." At the border between the two Koreas, a South Korean tourist said the rocket launch was preposterous to begin with. (SOUNDBITE) (Korean) 73-YEAR-OLD SOUTH KOREAN TOURIST KIM WAN-JAE SAYING: "What's the use of showing off with the launch? They should have a good relationship with neighbours. It's nonsense to launch a rocket." Condemnations by the U.S., South Korea and Japan could heighten pressure for more trade sanctions against Pyongyang, but analysts say a tough push for such measures could also lead to a show of defiance from unpredictable North Korea. North Korea rocket launch fails
North Korea's rocket launch failed, with the rocket breaking into pieces and crashing into the sea a few minutes after take-off. North Korea's state media says the satellite failed to enter orbit, and scientists and technicians are determining the cause of the failure. South Korea's defense ministry confirmed the failure. (SOUNDBITE) (Korean) SOUTH KOREAN DEFENSE MINISTRY SPOKESMAN KIM MIN-SEOK SAYING: "South Korean and U.S. intelligence understand that North Korea's missile launch failed and we will announce a final verdict after close analysis." The Japanese government said the launch did not encroach on Japanese territory. Japan's military has missiles on the southern island of Ishigaki, and was prepared to bring down the rocket had it veered off course. (SOUNDBITE)(Japanese) JAPANESE CABINET SECRETARY OSAMU FUJIMURA SAYING: "We received information that a flying projectile of some sort was launched from North Korea. This flying object flew for about one minute before seemingly falling into the Yellow Sea. We are still trying to analyse the details of this flight but the falling objects will have no effect on our country." The launch, which Pyongyang had said was meant to put a weather satellite into orbit, had been timed to coincide with the 100th birthday of the country's founder Kim Il-Sung. All eyes will now be on how Pyongyang will handle the failure of a major event that was meant to display its power. Michaela Cabrera, Reuters.

Japan Prepares Missile Defence Ahead of N.Korea Rocket Launch

Japan is concerned about the possibility of the Korean rocket crash landing.Content: Ishigaki, famed for its surf, sand and diving spots was turned in to a make-shift military base on Wednesday as nearly 100 Japanese Self Defense Force personnel set up a ballistic missile defense system ahead of North Korea's rocket launch.Defense analysts in Tokyo say the possibility of a crash landing is real.[Narushige Michishita, Security Director, Institute for Policy Studies, Tokyo]: "It is possible that it falls over a residential area in those islands, so we can't rule out that possibility. And also, missile propellant, the liquid propellant of the missile is quite toxic so that's another worry."The Japanese government has ordered its forces to shoot down the rocket if it directly threatens Japanese people or property.[Narushige Michishita, Security Director, Institute for Policy Studies, Tokyo]:"In 1998 missile test, North Korean rocket parts fell 60 kilometers off Japan's east coast. So that was a close call. And so that kind of situation can happen again. So I think it's a reasonable thing for the Japanese government to have decided to deploy the ballistic missile defense system."Holiday makers seem unconcerned. [Yosuke Higashitani, Tourist from Osaka]:"We're certainly worried, but we'd already made our reservations. So I just thought we'd have to get used to the situation -- I didn't feel like we should cancel."[Yuji Murafuku, Local Resident]:"Well the PAC-3s are here, you know that sort of is a reassurance. So I kind of feel everything is ok -- it's not that big a problem."

Match Moving Project "The Mushroom Monster"I shot this scene in my kitchen with a DV camera to create my first match-moving project. I tracked camera movement in Synth eye. The Mushroom monsters were modeled in Zbrush and I used retolopology in 3ds Max. I exported a low poly and a high poly model from Zbrush with a normal map and a displacement map to 3ds Max. I set up the biped and physique to the low poly model. Then, I attached the high poly model by using a skin-wrap modifier to the low poly model. Next, I rendered multiple paths such as a sub surface scattering image, a secular image, and an ambient occlusion image by compositing the project in After Effects.

(1211 CR M02)CHINA PROTESTS DIAOYU VISIT DATELINE: Dec 11, 2010 LENGTH: 00:00:50 FILE VO Beijing lets out loud protests against two Japanese lawmakers' landing on a group of islets in the East China Sea. The Diaoyu Islands have been at the center of a recent diplomatic row between China and Japan. Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Jiangyu on Friday reiterated that the Diaoyu Islands and its adjacent islets have been an integral part of the Chinese territory since ancient times. She says the move has seriously infringed China's territorial sovereignty. It's reported that two members of the municipal assembly of Ishigaki landed on an islet of the Diaoyu Islands. They stayed there for a while Friday morning. Relations between the two countries have been strained since two Japanese Coast Guard patrol ships collided with a Chinese trawler in September off the Diaoyu Islands. BEIJING ANGER AT JAPAN PLANS
(1218 CR M01)BEIJING ANGER AT JAPAN PLANS DATELINE: Dec 18, 2010 LENGTH: 00:01:31 FILE VO China has criticised Japan's plans to commemorate its occupation of the Diaoyu Islands more than a century ago. Beijing has also restated its calls for stability on the Korean Peninsula, following heightened tensions in the region. Speaking on Saturday, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Jiang Yu strongly criticized a Japanese city's move to commemorate what China describes as Japan's occupation of the Diaoyu Islands more than a century ago. She says the scheme by Ishigaki city infringes upon China's territorial sovereignty and is nothing more than, quote, "fruitless labor". Beijing insists the Diaoyu Islands - located northeast of China's Taiwan province - have been an inherent part of China since ancient times. In September, Japan seized a Chinese fishing boat and its crew on waters near the Diaoyu Islands. It returned the fishermen and trawler after repeated and strong representatio Powered by www.newslook.com Producer : Xinhua News Agency
