First, let's review what Copyright is. Any creation, be it an article, a book, a song, a film or...a video, can be only be used, reproduced or distributed if the author/creator gives permission to do so: that is what we call a copyright. The creation belongs to its creator and only he or she can give you the right to use it.
You may have heard the expression "intellectual property". It brings together brand rights, patent rights and copyrights.
Of course, if you are the creator of all the components of the video that you want to upload, there is no problem, so no worries! However if that isn't the case, you must ask for the consent of the creators or the rights-holders (these are the legal beneficiaries: TV or film producers, record labels, TV channels, etc.). Keep in mind that Dailymotion doesn't know who the legal beneficiary of every individual video is.
There is one thing to keep in mind: Dailymotion doesn't review the thousands of videos put online everyday! We are an internet host: we stock videos that internet users want to share on our machines. However, in accordance with the law, we remove videos that are reported to us, especially when it comes to copyright or privacy issues (you are not allowed to film your neighbors and upload the video without their agreement!).
Go to our page to report potentially infringing content.
Use the feature "this video may offend" under a video and complete the necessary fields.
The required time to upload a video depends upon your connection speed and the size of the video. Once the video has been uploaded, you must wait until the video has been encoded before you can watch it on the site.
There is no limit to the number of videos you can upload. You can upload 5 files at the same time.
If you want your video to be seen by others, it's important to provide plenty of textual information when you upload. Quality descriptive text makes videos easier to find inside of Dailymotion, and from external search engine. If you take the time to shoot and upload, you should take the time describe your work!
The title is the shortest description of your video but it's the first thing users will see. Your title should be clear, direct and accurate - don't be misleading.
What are Strongtags?
What we call Strongtags are rich semantic entities that can be used as substitutes for classic tags, the latter being raw text while Strongtags contains secondary data and links to other entities or topics.
A typical example to grasp the concept is the word “apple”: If used as a classic, raw text tag, there is no way to figure if the video is about apples, the fruit, or Apple inc., the company.
However, Strongtags allows you to make the distinction between the two thanks to the data associated to them. The linked data is the following:
Why should I add Strongtags to my videos?
Users browsing your video page will only see Strongtags, raw text tags will be seen by the video owner only.
Strongtags are given more weight in our search engine algorithm, videos with Strongtags will have their visibility improved not only on the platform but also on external search engines as they are \"crawlable\", meaning that they can be indexed in search engines such as Google.
Moreover, the ability to store language data for these entities allows us to display the tag in the visitor native language. Therefore, a visitor from Spain will see the tag in Spanish, if available. For instance, \"European Union\" will be seen as \"Unión Europea\". This way, you will draw more traffic to your content as everybody knows what your videos are about.
Are classic tags still useful?
Yes, Strongtags are complementary to classic tags. Use them to describe the main topic of your videos.
Auto-suggest, how does it work?
The auto-suggest module is requesting live data from a distant database based on what you have typed in the text input. It provides suggestions which you can pick if they are accurate, or ignore by pressing \"enter\" or typing a coma. If an entity from the suggestions is selected, your tag will be stored as a Strongtag, otherwise it will be saved as a classic tag.
Where does the data come from?
All this process is made available thanks to Freebase, an open collaborative database containing more than 20 millions entities brought together by the community.
Tags are simple keywords or other descriptive terms associated with a video. A few pointers on tagging:
There's no point in cramming a bunch of info into a video title - that's what the description is for! Descriptions can give background, explanation, or other context to a video, and make them easier to find as well. Some bits of info to include in your description:
On Dailymotion, as in life, it's better to spell words correctly. Too many typos will make your video harder to find, and if the description is hard to read other users may just skip your video for something else. And, like everywhere else on the web, ALL CAPS is considered YELLING, and is impolite.
The Dailymotion Mass Uploader is a program that allows you to upload your videos to Dailymotion without even visiting the Dailymotion website. The Mass Uploader allows you to upload multiple videos at a time, as well as pause and resume uploads. You can also add titles, tags, and descriptions right within the Mass Uploader. If you have had troubles with uploading in different Internet browsers before, or have many videos to upload, the Mass Uploader is the way to win.
For legal reasons, you cannot download videos from Dailymotion. However, you can collect videos you like by saving them to your favorites or adding them to playlists.

HD stands for "High Definition". This means that the video definition is 1280 pixels wide and 720 pixels high or 1920 pixels high and 1080 pixels wide. This resolution is superior to DVD image quality. Because of its higher quality, HD video looks great in fullscreen.
