Amazonia For Sale (The Awajún people and their struggle to protect their ancestral territory) The Awajun people have inhabited the Amazon rainforest since time immemorial, living in harmony with - and respectful of - nature. This ecological balance is now being threatened by a growing interest on the part of the Peruvian government and national and international companies in indiscriminately exploiting the area’s mineral, timber and oil resources. As a result of this plan, promoted by the state in the name of progress and economic development, the original inhabitants of these lands are now threatened by pollution, illness and desertification. This documentary tells the story of the Awajun people’s resistance and struggle for their dignity and territory, both now and in the future, seeking to avoid the tragic experience to which many of Latin America’s native peoples have already succumbed. RESISTIENDO Voces de las víctimas de la Masacre de Pando Documental – 41:23 min. Bolivia - 2009 Idioma: Español SINOPSIS: El 11 de septiembre de 2008 en Pando, uno de los departamentos con mayor oposición al gobierno de Evo Morales, fueron asesinadas 13 personas, en su mayoría campesinos, en lo que los organismos nacionales e internacionales denominaron como ¨La Masacre de Porvenir” o “La Masacre de Pando”. Después de la masacre hubo cientos de heridos y decenas de desplazados, pero a pesar de ello, a más de un año, los culpables siguen inpunes... Este documental muestra lo que pasó esa jornada pero también coloca esa fecha fatídica en un contexto más amplio. Este trabajo retrata la vida después del 11 de los familiares de las víctimas fatales y de los sobrevivientes de esa violencia. Resisting – Voices of the Victims of the Pando Massacre in Bolivia On September 11, 2008, 13 people – most of them peasants – were murdered in Pando, one of the departments with greatest opposition to Evo Morales’ government, in what international bodies such as Unasur and the UN called “the Porvenir Massacre” or “the Pando Massacre”. The massacre resulted in hundreds of injured and dozens of displaced people but, despite this, more than one year on, those repsonsible have still not been brought to justice... This documentary shows what happened on that day, but also places this fateful event in a broader context. The film is a portrait of the lives of the families of the victims and of those who survived the violence after September 11.
