Earlier this week an article from Wired stated the long-time developer would be retiring, an announcement that sparked a 2% drop in Nintendo's share price. . Maybe something was lost in translation but Nintendo immediately fired back with this statement, "This is not true, he will not be stepping down. Video game designer Shigeru Miyamoto's role at Nintendo is not changing. He will continue to be a driving force in Nintendo's development efforts. In discussing his priorities at Nintendo in a media interview, Mr. Miyamoto explained how he is encouraging the younger developers at the company to take more initiative and responsibility for developing software." . In addition to this statement from Nintendo, Miyamoto had an interview with the Wall Street Journal where he talked about his position at Nintendo and how we wants to create structure in the company so that the organization can continue on when eventually does decide to retire. He said, "I should also admit that it might be better without me; I mean that a different approach and different talent might emerge, though I shouldn't dwell on this because then the article might indeed say 'Mr. Miyamoto is thinking about retiring' because that is not the case." . He did confirm he is focusing more time on smaller projects and of course is celebrating the launch of two new 3DS games, Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7. Games he admits should have been launced when the 3DS was released earlier this year. Miyamoto is of course responsible for Nintendo's flagship Mario, Donkey Kong, and Zelda franchises. So don't worry Nintendo fans, Miyamoto is here to stay, well, at least for now.
