a fire continues to burn tonight on gibson near san mateo... about 30 minutes ago-- city officials updated us on the battle that's been going on since before 3 this afternoon. our eddie garcia has been on the scene all day. he starts off our live team coverage from the scene of tonight's big story. the entire southface of the royal crown apartments is almost completely gone leaving behind only rubble as firefighters work to contain the last hotspots. more than 70 firefighters attacked the blaze from all angles, kirtland airforce base is also lending a hand. residents from the 47 unit complex all escaped without injury although two had to be rescued their cat was saved too. two firefighters were also injured but one has been released and the other is being held for observation. residents living in nearby houses were evacuated but they've been allowed to return home. people living in the complex tell us they think the fire started in the laundry room. we also heard from residents that the dryer may have been the cause, that information has been conveyed to our fire investigators and they will use that information as part of their investigation. currently though it's under investigation and we don't have the cause determined at this time. the fire chief tells us they expect to work well into the night to make sure all the hotspots are out. gibson is expected to remain blocked off. for the first time since this fire erupted it's stopped raining ash and water. the sight of the damage is so stunning - i could hear people just saying wow as the walk past the scene others stand silent in disbelief. live in southeast albuquerque - eddie garcia kob eyewitness news 4. life has taken a dramatic turn for the 75 people who lived in that apartment complex. they didn't have time to grab anything when the fire ripped through the complex. joe vigil is live at a temporary shelter at highland high school ... where many of those people are staying tonight. last night the highland high gym was set up as a temporary shelter for anyone who needed help because of the natural gas crisis. because no really used it -- it was closed--only to quickly reopen again after today's fire. it may not look like home--but that's exactly what the highland gym is tonight for about 25 people who lost their apartments to the fire. "if this is where i have to be then i have to be. i may go to my sister's house. so i don't know. but right now i'm here." we caught up with denise bailey at the shelter and then talked to her again when she went back to the complex... which was stunning "my apartment was 306 and that whole side is gone, my whole apartment it's like it's not even there. it is empty there. i was just looking d it's like oh my goodness so i'm a little numb because we lost everything. bailey says her brothers smelled smoke. "all of a sudden i started coughing a little bit then we opened up the front door by that time smoke was just rushing in it was already thick." she had to leave with only the clothes on her back. "we didn't have time to grab anything the smoke was too thick and i knew it was time to go."

new at 6:30 we get our hands on never before seen surveillance video and pictures from a fatal officer involved crash in clovis. joe bartels is live in roswell with new details on the investigation... joe? investigators have released hundreds of pictures and documents to us that dail the crash investigation of officer stephen gallegos. we've also learned there's a new d-a handling the case. the clovis police department has finally released the initial report of the fatal crash that killed mary castillo and seriously injured edith payton. this grainy surveillance tape is the only known video that shows officer gallegos running a stop sign and crashing into a pick up the officer's on board dash cam was also running but doesn't show what happened-- only the aftermath. "315 to clovis. clovis 315 go ahead. there's a 10-62 at sycamore and...." pictures taken right after the crash were also released. air bag data from the cruiser shows gallegos was driving about 56 miles per hour just a second before the crash. the speed limit was 35. as part of the investigation...the police department moved the vehicles to try and recreate the moment of impact. in the reports-- the first officers on scene said gallegos asked them to find his cell phone. during an interview after the crash-- investigators asked gallegos why his call log was deleted. he said it was something he did all the time and deleted it right after the crash. cell phone records show gallegos was talking on his cell phone for 30 seconds before the crash. officer gallegos told investigators he was not on the phone at the time of the crash. officer gallegos was charged with vehicular homicide last month. the d-a in curry county has now turned over the case to prosecutors in quay county to avoid a conflict.

" the simple truth is there's no ideal time to leave the senate - i'm very proud of my service in the senate - service to the people of new mexico." nobody expected an emotional meltdown from the 67 year old bingaman - and they didn't get one - bingaman will serve out the remaining 22 months in his fifth term. " the end of this congress i believe it will be t right time for me to step aside and allow someone else to serve the state - it's not easy to get elected to the senate - it's obviously not easy to leave the senate." bingaman was first elected to the senate back in 82 - after serving four years as the state's attorney general - when pete domenici retired in oh-8 bingaman became new mexico's senior senator in a congress where seniority is everything. " i think we have a very capable congressional delegation and i'm confident they can carry on - i think the state is in very good shape as far as its interests in what goes on in washington." bingaman says he will devote the last months of his term to clean energy initiatives - education reform - and getting the economy back in shape. coming up at six - i talked to bingaman and his wife anne about their plans for retirement - and tried to get the senator to tell us what fun stuff he'll be doing - you're going to like his answer! back to you. governor susana martinez released a statement this afternoon aobut bingaman's announcement. the governor thanked senator bingaman calling him----- "an upstanding man of character who has served his state with great honor and distinction. she says the senator has been..... "a strong advocate for his constituents and contributed significantly to some of the most important debates in our nation's history." senator tom udall also released a statement saying "jeff bingaman is my friend and mentor. he has served the citizens of new mexico and the nation for over three decades, and we owe him a tremendous debt of gratitude..." "he is one of the most thoughtful and serious legislators in the united states senate, and his presence will be missed." senator bingaman serves on several powerful committees. he's chairman of the energy and natural resources committee which has jurisdiction over national energy policies and public lands. he serves on the finance committee which oversees issues like medicare, medicaid, social security and tax policy. he's also on the health, education, labor and pensions committee. and he's senior member of the joint economic committee that studies issues that affect the u.s. economy.// political blogger joe monahan calls today's announcement the bingaman bombshell. saying it was unexpected because his chances for re- election looked good. now he says 2012 is going to be another wild political year. on both republicans and democrats side there are a slew of candidates who will be lining up for the opportunity to go after an open u.s. senate seat - it's a rarity in new mexico. monahan thinks some people will start announcing their candidacy within the next week or two. while it's early, here are some of the names already being mentioned as possible candidates for bingaman's seat. for democrats---we're hearing u-s represenatives martin heinrich and ben ray lujan...and former lieutenant governor diane denish. for republicans, former u-s representative heathewilson is being mentioned... along with representative steve pearce. our coverage of today's big story continues at 6 o'clock with more from bingaman on why he made the decision to retire... plus new reaction from former senator pete domenici

A Southwest Atlanta man remains in the hospital this evening, after he was viciously attacked by pittbulls as he walked down the street.

Comcast (CMCSA) announced today that it has signed a long-term agreement with Time Warner (TWX) that provides CMCSA digital cable customers with access to top-rated shows and movies from Turner Broadcasting System networks, including TNT, TBS, CNN, HLN, truTV, Turner Classic Movies, Cartoon Network and Adult Swim. The content will appear after initial airing at no additional cost to CMCSA's customers. It will be accessible on CMCSA's On Demand service, XfinityTV.com, as well as applicable Turner Web Sites and Xfinity and Turner branded iPad, iPhone and Android-based tablet and phone applications. There are also plans for live streaming later this year. The company has stated that it is continuing to work with Turner to explore ways to make more current content accessible its customers, including the implementation of authenticated live streaming of Turner networks through both Comcast and Turner Web sites andor applications. The Turner content on Xfinity platforms is anticipated to accrue to Nielsen C3 ratings across TV and the Internet starting in mid-2011, and eventually to phone and tablet devices. Shares of CMCSA are up 2.44% to $23.31, a $0.56 increase.
