The Smallest Show on Earth
When Matt Spenser (Bill Travers) learns he has inherited a movie house in the hinterlands of Sloughborough, he expects his wife Jean Spenser (Virginia McKenna) will move into what they think is a money-making business. Since Matt has been struggling to make ends meet, this surprise inheritance seems a windfall. Alas, the movie theater is in disarray. Unable to sell it, they keep the staff on and intend to screen features with their oddball team of workers, including idiosyncratic Percy Quill (Peter Sellers) who serves as projectionist and their dotty ticket-booth lady, Mrs. Fazackalee (Margaret Rutherford), as well as the doorman named Old Tom (Bernard Miles) who also seems in his dotage. Yet, all’s well that ends well.
