Michelle Pfeiffer and Kathy Bates bring us the story of a love that can no longer be, and the pain and triumph that happens afterward in Cheri, brought to us in limited release June 26th. In Paris in the 1920s, the son of a professional courtesan finds himself bereft after forced to end the relationship with his first love, a much older woman who taught him all she knew of love. He's not taking it well, so he ends up retreating into a fantasy world of his own making. Check out the trailer. It's strange to see a movie so clearly push for Oscar gold in the height of summer movie season--there's no way Cheri's going to last even five minutes against stuff like Transformers 2--so it's enough to make one sit up and take notice.
