I'm Bridget Daly for CLevver Music. We sorta saw this coming. Apparently Bette Midler is angry with Gaga for stealing her whole wheelchair bit. Now as you know, the Sydney performance has been met with lots of controversy ever since the video hit the web, with wheelchair organizations even calling on Gaga to apologize for mocking the disabled. And now Midler has jumped aboard with her two cents because she claims it's a direct copy of a performance she did back in the 80s. Bette tweeted over the weekend saying, "I'm not sure @ladygaga knows that I've performed my mermaid in a wheelchair for millions of people — and many of them are still alive. Dear @ladygaga if you think a mermaid in a wheelchair seems familiar-it's because it is!You can see it on youtube 24/7-with ME performing it." And the next day, Midler continued, "Dear @ladygaga Ive been doing singing mermaid in a wheelchair since 1980-You can keep the meat dress and the firecracker tits-mermaid's mine." But then she may have had a change of heart, then realizing the poosibility of a duet with Gaga, so wrote, "let's drink this over at the Emmys in September. Fabulous mermaids can coexist!" As expected, Gaga hasn't directly respoinded to Bette, but she did tweet out to her little monsters that the video was completed. She wrote, "Next video in just days. So passionate about the concept. Can't sleep. Visions of a surreal love. #YuyiIsReal. If you want her to be." So cool! We can't wait to see it! Stay tuned on ClevverMusic for more. Flaunting plenty of girls and gags, The Showgirl Must Go On features an enchanting repertoire complete with some of Midler's favorite characters, from Delores Delago – the wheelchair-bound mermaid – to Soph, the oldest living showgirl in Las Vegas. Amongst the backdrop of a glittering Broadway-style theatre, Midler and her entourage of talented performers light up the stage in an energetic, comical, and visually stunning spectacle.
