Adapted from Lewis Carroll’s 1865, “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland”, finds Alice (Anne-Marie Mallik) who is bored with sister (Jo Maxwell Muller) becomes intrigued with a talking White Rabbit (Wilfrid Brambell) scurrying past. Alice follows the White Rabbit down a hole and begins slowly falling into a fantastic world inhabited by characters that span all aspects of the human condition. From the tiny door, to swimming in ones own tears, to a caterpillar named Hookah (Sir Michael Redgrave), all while dealing with a height crisis. By now Alice, is trying to find her way back to the shrunken door Garden and every character she meets recites poetry under strange circumstances; none weirder than a tea party hosted by the Mad Hatter (Peter Cook), the March Hare (Michael Gough) and the Dormouse (Wilfrid Lawson). Alice finds her way back to the garden and becomes entwined in the politics of a playing card society of outrages disorder brought about by the Queen of Hearts (Alison Leggatt) culminating in the trail of the Knave of Hearts (Peter Eyre) for stealing the tarts. Alice defies the Queen while testifying and as the Queen yells “Off with her head” Alice’s sister wakes her for tea.
