Three of those professors proceeded to encourage her to (at least temporarily) drop out of school to pursue music. So she did.She began making more ambitious recordings with a higher scrutiny for lyrics and melody after a humiliating experience with a French man. She was back-packing through Europe completely alone when she found herself in Paris, couchsurfing with a Dutch journalist. She was showing him and his friend the same recordings she gave to her professors and the Frenchman laughed in her face and told her how horrible the songs sounded. She was completely humiliated - 'I was so used to getting complimented on my voice I didn't know how to react'. But it was a blessing: 'No single person has influenced my eager pursuit of quality song-writing/recording as he has. My motto since then has been "higher standards".'Alana hopes her EP "The Misuse of Chemistry" and album releases find their way into people's road trip playlists and journey mixes. 'I would love for my songs to have a positive influence on the decisions and discoveries people make while they're in segue. Cartoonish, Eastern, and cowboy are all words that come to mind. From the opening look, a pink-haired model wearing a bright turquoise blazer and matching cowboy hat, we knew this collection was going to be something else. And it was--filled with eclectic prints (paisley motifs from India), colors like orange, gold, and blue, metallic on saris, cowboy hats, and pink and blue hairdos. At times, we wondered if designer Thakoon Panichgul was trying too hard. Then again, you could see the fine tailoring in the clothes, the wisdom of a talented designer in the seams. http://www.FTV.com/videos LONDON - Peter Pilotto and Christopher De Vos, designers for the brand named after Pilotto, were said to be inspired by a trip to Indonesia. That meant you'd be seeing a lot of color in this Spring/Summer 2012 collection and the colors that have been seen in many New York Fashion Week and Milan Fashion Week collections alike--orange, blue, jewel tones. But it wasn't just the colors that spoke to the tropical travel color theme. It was also a certain print that kept repeating, and it was showcased in various colors palettes. There were florals, of course, but they too brought out the tropical element. The skirts in the collection had a sort of aquatic feel which was enhanced by their great attention to scuplture and architectural detail which added an element of sophisticated and real mastery of design. Jacquards, special cut pieces, and scuba motifs also added to the watery sophistication vibe.
