A verbose and politically correct bureaucrat gives a lecture to a group of teenagers on the merits of the UK's efficient and humane asylum system, whilst meanwhile, in the same building, detainees, imprisoned indefinitely in different 'Removal Centres' across the UK, leave messages in vain on an abandoned telephone answering machine in the ministry basement. Their messages detail the horror of the life that they have escaped due to conflict.Written and Directed by Tim Travers Hawkins, one of the winners of the 2008 Ctrl.Alt.Shift short film competition. His prize was the funding, cast and crew to make this film, with the support of Ctrl.Alt.Shift and mentor Chris Harding from Shynola.

Under the concept Diagrama de Venn (Venn diagram) is constructed the exhibition of the same name hosted by the Mustang Art Gallery of Elche. The Venn diagram is a graphic explanation which represents the intersection of overlapping concepts. "MAKING STUFF MOVE IS EASY...BUT...MAKING STUFF MOVE YOU IS HARD" The line came to me while pitching on some commercial or other & trying to explain what I loved about animation, & what was particularly hard with certain kinds of animation - trying to get that emotional connection out of a basically inanimate object. I think I was also attempting to explain to some agency people that, yes, I could animate a particular foodstuff (even though I didn't have that on my reel ) because, guess what...I'm an animator! Rather than try to tell a particular story I decide to animate the actual words, & in as many ways as possible (by the way, I love typography). I wanted to include every kind of 'traditional' model animation technique that I could within the framework of the film - from modelling clay balls to pixilating human hands & bodies, from animating food (the chopped peppers) to timelapse (the scene in the woods), from 2D drawn animation to moving sand, etc. Basically, it's meant to be a fun piece showcasing various methods of stop-frame animation! The whole thing was shot in camera using Nikon digital stills cameras (I really wanted to keep that certain 'feel' you get) with a bit of cleaning up in AfterEffects in post. This is my tribute to the imagination of filmmakers when it comes to creating terrifying monsters, disturbing aliens, man-eating huge animals and all kinds of vicious, annoying, funny looking creatures. The only monsters I skipped on purpose are the Classic Hollywood Monsters (Dracula, the Mummy, Frankenstein) and also zombies, werewolves, vampires, evil clowns, ghosts, spirits... I didn't want anything too human-looking cause that wouldn't fit the idea of monstruosity and pure remorsless destruction I was looking for. I also discarded animated movies. R.I.P.
