Talk Talk - Such a shame
Talk Talk est un groupe britannique de musique pop, en activité entre 1982 et 1991, composé de Mark Hollis (chanteur, né en 1955 à Londres, Angleterre), Tim Friese-Green (pianiste), Paul Webb (bassiste) et Lee Harris (batteur). D'abord synthétique et new wave, sur l'album The Party's over (1982), la musique de Talk Talk est devenue, au fil du temps, plus pop, avec les albums It's my life (1984) et The Colour of spring (1986), avant de prendre un virage nettement plus expérimental, à mi-chemin entre une sorte de jazz-rock revisité et un style néoclassique, sur les deux derniers albums : Spirit of Eden (1988) et, surtout, Laughing Stock (1991). Le chanteur du groupe, Mark Hollis, a sorti en 1998 un album solo Mark Hollis. Les autres membres du groupe sont réapparus dans divers projets : on peut notamment citer .O.rang, auteur de deux albums surtout remarqués par la critique rock. Plusieurs compilations de Talk Talk existent, dont la plus complète est sans doute Natural History : The Very Best of Talk Talk (1990). OMD - Enola gay
Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (OMD) est un groupe de new wave britannique dont les plus célèbres chansons sont Electricity, Enola Gay et Souvenir. Le groupe a tout d'abord signé sur le label Factory Records (ayant aussi signé Joy Division), où il sorti le simple Electricity. Souvenir évoque d'ailleurs le suicide du chanteur de Joy Division. Le groupe connaîtra ses plus grands succès avec Virgin Records. OMD fut un des premier groupe à sortir la musique électronique de la sphère expérimentale (tel que le faisait par exemple Kraftwerk) pour en faire de véritables chansons pops. OMD apparut au début des années 1980 en même temps que Soft Cell, Depeche Mode, Eurythmics et fut le précurseur de toute une génération de duos synthétiques fonctionnant selon le même principe : Yazoo, Tears For Fears, Bronski Beat, The Communards, Pet Shop Boys, ou encore Erasure. OMD a largement été promu sur les ondes de Radio-Cité, une station radio belge de musique rock alternative, qui a émis sur la bande FM, de 1978 à 1986, chaque week-end, avec comme animateurs le musicien Marc Moulin, le Bison des montagnes, Anne Goreux et Jean-Pierre Hautier. Bronski beat - Smalltown boy
Bronski Beat est un trio londonien qui a vu le jour en 1984, à l'heure où la pop anglaise se mêlait à la New Wave. Bronski Beat est connu et reconnu grâce à la voix haut perchée de son chanteur Jimmy Somerville. Jimmy Somerville, qui avoua son homosexualité très tôt dans un pays où l'homophobie était librement affichée, a bouleversé, le petit monde anglais de la musique en 84, avec deux singles tonitruants : Why et Smalltown Boy. Leur premier album The Age of Consent, d'une qualité que la critique ne manquera pas de célébrer, cartonne la même année. Un an plus tard, Jimmy quitte le groupe pour former les Communards. Bronski Beat se trouve un nouveau chanteur John Jon, totalement inconnu. Le groupe réalise plusieurs albums, mais les fans s'accordent à dire que le groupe a tout perdu, depuis le départ de Somerville.
