Rage Against The Machine - Killing
"Killing in the Name" was the first single released by Rage Against the Machine from their eponymous album, and is one of the band's signature songs. On 31 August 1999, it was reissued together with two previously unreleased tracks, "Darkness of Greed" and "Clear the Lane". Note that the name is not "Killing in the Name Of", a common mistake due to the lyrics of the song. The lyrics allege that some members of law enforcement in the United States are also members of Ku Klux Klan: "Some of those that work forces are the same that burn crosses". Zack De La Rocha's tone suggests that racism in law enforcement is nothing new yet tantamount to government racism. The song's verses are built around the same few lines repeated several times, building up a crescendo. The last line has become rather notorious: "Fuck you, I won't do what you tell me!" shouted repeatedly, most likely referring to the oppressive KKK groups the song is aimed at, but also a message of rebellion to the American government as a whole.
Rage Against The Machine - Testify
The movie ran through me The glamour subdue me The tabloid untie me I'm empty please fill me Mister anchor assure me That Baghdad is burning Your voice it is so soothing That cunning mantra of killing I need you my witness To dress this up so bloodless To numb me and purge me now Of thoughts of blaming you Yes the car is our wheelchair My witness your coughing Oily silence mocks the legless Now traveling in coffins But on the corner The jury's sleepless We found your weakness And it's right outside your door Now testify With precision you feed me My witness I'm hungry Your temple it calms me So I can carry on My slaving sweating the skin right off my bones On a bed of fire I'm choking on the smoke that fills my home The wrecking ball rushing My witness your blushing The pipeline is gushing While here we lie in tombs While on the corner The jury's sleepless We found your weakness And it's right outside your door Now testify Mass graves for the pump and the price is set Who controls the past now controls the future Who controls the present now controls the past Who controls the past now controls the future Who controls the present now? Now testify

Everyone on the planet should own a copy of this landmark release.
Outkast-Hey Ya
Lenny Kravitz - American Woman
Kravitz covered the song for the soundtrack of Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me. It was later included in the 1999 re-issue of his 5 album. Lenny said that he wanted to make a funkier version of the song, but ironically it did not feature any kind of snare drums, something common in funk songs, however, Kravitz argues that he has listened to old funk records that do not feature notable drums sounds. "American Woman" is the title track of Canadian band The Guess Who's 1970 album, American Woman.
