BCD Series 2: Episode 1 Part A
The Big Cat team is back in Kenya's Masai Mara to track down the stars of the show, For ten weeks a group of film makers will embark on a wild journey to unravel the lives of these creatures.Simon King finds Amber, a female cheetah with her cubs. Jonathan finds Shadow, Half-Tail's daughter from the previous series. As usual the Marsh Pride have been found fit and well with playful cubs.

Simon King watches the exellent progress of Amber the cheetah and her family as they hone their hunting skills but then suffer some setbacks, with failed hunts and being chased off by baboons. Then finds a family of jackals at their denJonathan Scott watches the Marsh Pride lionesses stalk a wildebeest. At dawn he goes in search of Half-Tail the leopard star from the previous series, whom almost gets herself killed by passing lionesses but narrowly escapes up a tree with her life.

Simon King watches the Marsh Pride, particularly the males, uncovering their role and finds one surprisingly showing the young cubs effection. The vast migration of zebra and wildebeest make a river crossing but these waters are not at all free of predators, he then loses track of Amber the cheetah and her family to his frustration.Jonathan Scott finds Half-Tail again who he suspects is a mother herself which is good news to him. He then observes a mighty display of strength by a lioness as she drags a 150 kilo wildebeest across the plains to some shade.

Simon King observes a male lion attempting to defend two kills at the same time against a flock of eager vultures, and wtches the fun behaviour of the young Marsh pride lion cubs. as they use a meal as an excuse to mess around. He also discoveres a family of serval cats, whose large ears enable them to hear the sounds of prey. After a frustrating few days without contact with Amber the cheetah and her cubs, she finally turns up who greets Simon by jumping on his car bonnet.Jonathan Scott gets the first glimps of Half-Tail's young cubs but they seem to be far away from where he expected to find them. Half-Tail has never been able to raise a litter of two cubs - maybe she will this time around. Jonathan also finds a new group of lions whom seem to be bordering the Marsh prise territory, he witnesses a standoff between the lions and a herd of wilebeest - considered to be one of the most dangerous animals in Africa. He t then watches Shadow stalk some prey, without any success.

Simon King finds the cheetah cubs hunting two adult warthogs, a bit ambitious for them but they quickly re-focus on a smaller pig which they catch and eat. Later he sees a hyena chase the cheetahs off a gazelle kill before encountering problems itself with jackals and vultures. Simon discovers Amber's three cubs - but without their mother for the first time.Jonathan Scott observes a lion and lioness from the new pride as they mate, then watches four of the lionesses stalk and kill a zebra. Shadow the leopard has a frustrating day as she is unwelcomed by every animal she meets.

Later he sees a hyena chase the cheetahs off a gazelle kill before encountering problems itself with jackals and vultures. Simon discovers Amber's three cubs - but without their mother for the first time.Jonathan Scott observes a lion and lioness from the new pride as they mate, then watches four of the lionesses stalk and kill a zebra. Later they encounter an intruder cheetah, and approach with caution.Jonathan Scott watches Shadow the leopard scent marking her vast territory to let others know she is around. He then witnesses the Marsh lions stand-off against a herd of buffalo who threaten to trample and kill the young cubs. After a long battle the herd retreats and the cubs are safe again.

Simon King watches Amber the cheetah as she uses the weather in her favour by hunting a Thomson's gazelle, then later the cubs take shelter under Simon's car and play in the rain. Also two lionesses, sisters - one which is unable to run, stalk and ambush a waterbuck and has a close encounter with one of the cheetah cubs.Jonathan Scott explaines the importance of scent in the lives of the Marsh lions and observes a rare event. Shadow the leopard kills an impala fawn in clear view of the film crew. After leaving her original prey behind, the mother impala, she loses it to hyenas but stashes the fawn kill in a tree.

He also witnesses one of the most spectacular events in the Masai Mara. a wildebeest river crossing, with crocodiles in the deadly waters.Jonathan Scott finds Shadow the leopard in fine health, having taken over her mother Half-Tail's territory. Later he has an emotional moment with Half-Tail herself and her young cubs. After the carnage of the buffalo attack, the Marsh pride continue to be successful as they eventually subdue a battle hardened warthog.
