Urban Aquaculture
Professor Martin Schreibman says our oceans have been overfished beyond repair. If we're going to keep eating fish and chips, tuna tartare, and all those omega-3 fatty acids, we may have to rely on aquaculture. Schreibman is working to bring those fish farms into the city. Urban aquaculture? We'll bite.

Green turtle
act now! www.climatetrackers.netGreen turtleThe last glacial age for marine turtles?Marine turtles may not survive the end of the current glacial age as their nesting areas are progressively being submerged or eroded. Marine turtles dig their nests on the sandy beaches of the tropical and subtropical zones of the planet. As soon as they are laid, their eggs are under attack from many predators, such as human beings who eat them or crabs that make holes in them. In recent years, the small turtles have also been threatened by global warming with rising sea levels and the increase in extreme climatic events (such as storms, hurricanes, and cyclones). In essence, little by little, beaches are becoming either eroded or flooded. Nevertheless, the marine turtles survived the previous glacial ages by modifying their migration routes and choosing alternative nesting sites. However, this ability to adapt might not be enough this time as their environment is changing much too quickly and the potential nesting sites are either already occupied or destroyed by human infrastructures. Walrus
act now! www.climatetrackers.netWalrusWalruses adriftClimate change is depriving walruses of the fragments of pack ice that they live on, threatening them with ‘shipwreck’ and food shortages. Walruses are large marine mammals with flippers that live in certain regions of the Arctic Ocean. Their way of life requires a layer of very thick ice to support the weight of the groups of individuals (which weigh on average one ton), and shallow waters enabling them to reach their favourite shellfish. Unfortunately, global warming is modifying their environment and with higher temperatures, the fragments of pack ice melt are becoming thinner and shrinking. The smaller patches of ice drift away from the shallow waters and as walruses are not good swimmers, they are deprived of an important amount of their food. Hermann's tortoise
act now! www.climatetrackers.netHermann's TortoiseIt’s getting warmer and drier in the Mediterranean Drought is extending in the South of Europe, meaning the fires in the Mediterranean shrubland and woodland last longer and are more intense. Hermann's tortoise is a terrestrial tortoise that can live for one hundred years in the shrublands and grasslands in European Mediterranean countries. It never strays far from its place of origin and can return to it if it is taken somewhere else, thanks to its highly developed sense of direction. Its current predators are agricultural machines, lawnmowers, dogs and those who want it as a pet. Now this reptile faces another problem – the current climate change in the South of Europe. The frequency of fires throughout the Mediterranean basin is increasing and more than one million hectares of forests are destroyed by fire each year. And even if these fires are in most cases caused by people, the reality is that the drought that is intensifying through current climate change is causing the fires to spread further and last much longer. Bande annonce PERCHE, SANDRE, ET AUTRES PERCIDES
