Former CCP Journalist: Tiananmen Massacre Must Be Re-evaluated
For more news and videos visit ☛ http://english.ntdtv.comFollow us on Twitter ☛ http://twitter.com/NTDTelevisionAdd us on Facebook ☛ http://on.fb.me/s5KV2CAs China's communist authorities continue a period of intense political struggle, there have been rumors that major aspects of the Party's political platform are to be reevaluated. Among the most historically significant reforms being called for by some tied with the Party is the re-evaluation of 1989's Tiananmen Square massacre of student protestors. The anniversary of the June 4th, 1989 massacre of protesting students in Tiananmen Square is once again approaching. Accurate historical accounts of the massacre have long been censored in mainland China, where the events are a major politically sensitive issue. This year is seen as especially significant, as the Communist Party is in the midst of a once-in-a-decade leadership transition—one that has been marked with explosive political developments, widely reported to reflect intense struggles at the Party's highest levels. Many inside and outside the Party have proposed specific political reforms. According to some Chinese news sites, there are even plans circulating to "rehabilitate" the 1989 protest movement—a move that would be politically unprecedented as an endorsement of democratic politics."Li Wei" is the alias of a former Communist Party journalist interviewed by NTD in Hong Kong, where she spoke at the "June Fourth Commemorative Museum", a museum dedicated to exposing the uncensored history of the protests and the ensuing crackdown. Li Wei's former position as a journalist was with the Party's leading newspaper, the People's Daily. She said quote: "I never imagined that the incident still hasn't been resolved after so many years. This is one of the most cruel, distorted and unfair facts which lasts such a long time."Victim of the June 4th incident, democracy activist Zheng Cunzhu, said that the Communist Party's strategy is to (quote) "hide the truth"
Israeli Develops Portable Electric Scoote
For more news and videos visit ☛ http://english.ntdtv.comFollow us on Twitter ☛ http://twitter.com/NTDTelevisionAdd us on Facebook ☛ http://on.fb.me/s5KV2CAn Israeli man has designed a portable electric scooter that is small enough to carry in a bag, and strong enough to be used by adults.Industrial designer Nimrod Sappir invested his own savings, his family's savings, and took out a bank loan to develop his idea. The project was three and a half years in the making, and the effort is now paying off.The scooter, named "Myway", won the Israeli Ministry of Commerce and Industry's Industrial Design Award.[Nimrod Sappir, Industrial Designer]:"The difference between my scooter and models that exist today is of course the lithium-ion batteries. The whole chassis is built differently, everything is thinner, smaller, and lighter, and folds really fast; you can tuck it into a bag, pull or carry it when you don't need it, and when you do, you just open it and drive."[Noam Meshulam, Technician]:"The marvel of this invention is that it's light-weight, collapsible, mobile and easy to operate. It's a nice machine, but it's not for children."And using the scooter means you can get the whole way from A to B as easily as possible.[Noam Meshulam, Technician]:... [it] enables them to reach their destination as fast as possible, or skip between destinations—for example, you get off the train, take your scooter whether it's in your bag or trolley, or hold it by its handle, then open it in seconds and reach your destination in a motorized way, without sweating."Sappir is now investing his energy in the next version.[Nimrod Sappir Industrial Designer]:"The product I'm selling today is 1.1 meters in size when it's folded. The future version will be only 60 centimeters in size. The weight will be similar—around 12 kilos."Sappir's idea is to give people a simple yet effective way to use their vehicles less, be independent and have easier access anywhere.

Chinese Communist Party Expels Former Railways Minister
For more news and videos visit ☛ http://english.ntdtv.comFollow us on Twitter ☛ http://twitter.com/NTDTelevisionAdd us on Facebook ☛ http://on.fb.me/s5KV2CThe Chinese Communist Party has expelled former railways minister Liu Zhijun. He had been removed from his railways ministry position in February 2011 for "serious disciplinary violations" with allegations of corruption and bribery. His ouster from the Party—announced Monday—indicates that he will almost certainly be convicted in court.Liu was railways minister from 2003 to 2011. He had spearheaded much of China's high-speed rail development. That system came under intense scrutiny last July when a train collision killed 40 people in the city of Wenzhou, raising concerns over safety in track construction and signaling.Liu had already been removed from his position several months before that crash, but he may still be held partially responsible, in particular because in China, politics and public scrutiny can have a major impact on court decisions.Liu had close ties to former Chinese leader Jiang Zemin.

Rigged up onto the face of the Sea Containers building, the 330 x 220 foot canvas weighs almost two tons and is the largest ever photograph of the Royal Family. The image is of the Royal Family at the Queen's Silver Jubilee in 1977, taken by an unknown photographer. [Stephen Hanover, Overseeing Project]:"A perfect opportunity for when the flotilla rolls in, to celebrate in style with a picture of the Silver Jubilee in the background."The giant picture began as a small image of which the resolution was increased to enable the creation of a larger banner. The image was then printed on to a number of sections - 42 in total - over one week. The sections were then fabricated so as to be suitable for application on to the scaffolding. [Stephen Hanover, Overseeing Project]:"You can imagine, a banner this size - to produce it in so many sections; the weight of the pieces of the material are very very high. We have to transport them up to the thirty meter height of the building, so internally, because the building in being refurbished, it's a bit of a logistical nightmare to get the pieces in position so that we can drop them off of the top of the building." The picture took approximately one month to produce and install and involved a production team of 30 to 40 people.
Russian Language Bill Sparks Protest in Ukraine
For more news and videos visit ☛ http://english.ntdtv.comFollow us on Twitter ☛ http://twitter.com/NTDTelevisionAdd us on Facebook ☛ http://on.fb.me/s5KV2CThe speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament, known as the Rada, expressed embarrassment on Friday one day after proceedings in the chamber dissolved into a fist fight among deputies. The deputies were fighting over a bill drafted by Ukraine's ruling party, which aims to make Russian an official language - equal to Ukrainian - in many parts of the country.Ukraine has a population of 43 million, with 27 regions in total - the law is proposed for the 13 regions where there are sizeable numbers of Russian-speaking citizens. The violent scuffles broke out between deputies from President Viktor Yanukovich's ruling Regions party, and lawmakers from pro-Western opposition parties, who want to preserve Ukraine's cultural and political independence from its powerful neighbor Russia. Speaker Vladimir Litvin said he was ashamed by the spectacle, which was caught on video that immediately went viral across the world. [Vladimir Litvin, Ukrainian Upper Rada Speaker]:"We need to harness the courage and buffoonery (shown in the brawl) and go the people, because everyone says 'they are acting on behalf of the people' so we need to go to the people and tell the truth, and they will support or not support (us). We cannot keep torturing the country. The whole world is laughing at us."The draft bill proposes using Russian as an official language equal to Ukrainian in some civic institutions such as schools, hospitals and courts, in the regions where a Russian-speaking population is in the majority. Opposition deputies consider the law an attempt by Yanukovich's party to divide Ukrainians ahead of upcoming parliamentary elections in October, as well as being a threat to the existence of Ukrainian language.

They were changing guard with the Queen's normal bodyguards or Life Guards - the Household Cavalry, who are distinctive for their navy or red cloaks, shiny helmets and long black boots. The Life Guards have acted in this way for the Sovereign since the 17th century. Earlier this year the Queen was made Commandant in Chief of the Canadian forces and she returned the honour by inviting the Mounties to take part in the traditional ceremony. The invitation is part of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations and was a gesture first made by her grandfather King George VI in 1936. The Mounties are acting as the Life Guards on Wednesday and Friday. The team comprise 15 men - and for the first time, women too. They are using the Household Cavalry's horses, not their own, which they said was the most difficult thing for them to learn to get used to. The Canadians have also been told they must hold with the tradition of not smiling while they are standing sentry duty.
