Clifford Joseph Harris Jr., connu sous le nom de T.I., naît le 25 septembre 1980 à Atlanta, aux Etats-Unis. Le rappeur tient son nom de scène de son grand-père, qui le surnomne T. I. P. Dès l'âge de 11 ans, il décide de poursuivre une carrière de MC et signe son premier contrat à 19 ans. L'artiste, auto-proclamé "roi du sud", livre son premier album, I'm Serious, en 2001. Deux ans plus tard, T.I. enregistre Trap Musik, qui est immédiatement un succès, puis Urban Legend (2003). La consécration arrive avec King, en 2006, qui remporte de nombreux prix. En 2007, le rappeur revient avec T.I vs T.I.P., dont est extrait le single Big Things Poppin'.
