"Renegades of Funk" is a music track written and released as a single on the Tommy Boy label by Afrika Bambaataa and the Soulsonic Force in 1984. It was originally produced and mixed by Arthur Baker and John Robie, and was rereleased on a CD in 1993. The song is an eclectic fusion of electronic music and heavy percussion, with politically fused rap lyrics that draw a connection between past revolutionaries and bohemians to present day street artists. This was also used by the Toronto Raptors as their entrance song during home games in 2006. In 2000, Rage Against the Machine recorded the song for their cover album Renegades. The video clip produced by Steven Murashige was a montage of film clips, mostly of rap, funk and hip-hop music and events of the Civil Rights movements, interspersed with mixed media stills of these individuals the song implies are 'renegades':
"Heart of Glass" was originally recorded in 1975 under the name "Once I Had a Love (also known as The Disco Song)", and was much slower with a blues/reggae vibe to it. The song was frequently performed on tours, then was re-recorded with the same title in 1978, when the song was made a bit more rock-oriented. When Blondie recorded the album Parallel Lines, disco was big on the music scene, and producer Mike Chapman decided to give the song the disco twist that made the song what it is today, and probably one of the best-known Blondie songs ever. The song was released in January 1979 and reached number one in both the United States and the United Kingdom. The B-side to this single was "Rifle Range" from Blondie's debut self titled album. There was also an instrumental version of the song, available on the 12" version of the single.
"Once in a Lifetime" is a popular song by Talking Heads, from their album Remain in Light, and was later used for the promotion of the concert film Stop Making Sense. It was named as one of the 100 most important American musical works of the 20th century by National Public Radio. It was written by David Byrne and Brian Eno.
"Love Will Tear Us Apart" is a 1980 song by Joy Division. It features the eerie baritone vocals of Ian Curtis as well as being one of the band's most famous songs, it is also hailed by some to be one of the greatest songs ever written. Although the list changes constantly, the single is often at #1 of the Rate Your Music: Top 1000 Singles Of All-Time
