At the of age 21, after finishing his compulsory military service as a leading singer in the IDF Communications Corps Band, Harel decided to develop his performing and singing qualifications at "Beit Zvi" - the Academy for the Performing Arts.
Harel was awarded a number of the school's most distinguished scholarships.

2004- Harel was in his second year of his studies when he was accepted into the second season of "A Star is Born" (the Israel adaptation of American Idol) and was immediately a clear favorite for winning, receiving the highest number of votes during all stages of the show with his stunning performances and inspiring vocal abilities. At the season finale, Harel won second place, a result which sparked heated debate in the general public in Israel, and a great outcry from Harel numerous fans. It also set off a scandal over alleged fraud in the show's voting system. Harel's performance from the season finale topped the official Israeli Music Channel charts for 80 days (a record which remains unbroken to this day).

2005 - After being much sought after and receiving numerous attractive offers from every record label in Israel, Harel eventually started work on his own album which launched in stores in 2006 and was titled "Harel Skaat". The album achieved gold album status after 3 weeks and later reached platinum.
The debut album, which included ten songs, yielded five chart-leading hits, including "And You", which was at the top of the charts for 7 weeks on all national radio stations.

2010 - Harel Skaat is one of the leading and most sought-after artists in Israel. Harel's extraordinary vocal talent and charming charisma have given him the great privilege and opportunity to participate in numerous shows, large scale events and country ceremonies as well as representing Israel in Eurovision 2010.
