Alastair Brown

Alastair Brown Viola/Violin <br /><br />Alastair is an active performer and teacher throughout the twin cities. Alastair preforms with Zeitgeist new music Ensemble, he plays regularly with the Minnesota Opera and the Minnesota Sinfonia on both violin and viola and is a regular substitute with, and has toured with the Minnesota Orchestra. He is artist-in-residence at Muse Salon, and was also a founding member of Arius Chamber Music, and has been a member of the Duluth symphony and concertmaster of the Rochester Orchestra. Alastair has also performed as a substitute with the Saint Paul Chamber orchestra and was previously a regular substitute for the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia. As an orchestral musician, he has performed under the baton of some of todays finest conductors, including Osmo Vanska, Edo de Waart, Helmuth Rilling, Stanislav Scrowaczewski, and Alan Gilbert. In addition to performing he has been on the faculty of the Harbor Conservatory for the Performing arts (NY,NY) the Minnesota Valley Academy of Music, Arts at River Ridge, and currently is on the violin/viola faculties of both the Minnesota Valley Conservatory and the Saint Paul Conservatory of Music. Alastair earned a BM performance from Brooklyn College Conservatory of Music under Masao Kawasaki and Itzhak Perlman, and was awarded the Dean Warren Schuyler award for most accomplished Violinist. He also studied regularly with the late Dorothy DeLay. Previous to attending college, Alastair's primary teacher was Helen Foli, and he has also studied with Mary West and Lee Keng Kok. Additional study on the viola with Karen Dreyfus and Kenneth Freed.
