This channel is about the books written by Al Carroll, history professor, author, and human rights activists.
My three books are Presidents' Body Counts: The Twelve Worst and Four Best American Presidents Based on How Many Lived or Died Because of Their Actions; Medicine Bags and Dog Tags: American Indian Veteran Traditions from Colonial Times to the Second Iraq War; and Survivors: Family Histories of Colonialism, Genocide, and War. Future books will include Ira Hayes: The Meaning of His Life in Native Memory and White Stereotypes; an alternate history work Confederate Tyranny; and A People's History of Texas.
EDUCATION: PhD in History, Arizona State University
MA in History, Purdue University
EMPLOYMENT: I am Assistant Professor of History at Northern Virginia Community College, teaching American, American Indian, and Latin American History. I also taught at Arizona State University, San Antonio College, St. Phillip's College, and Hasanuddin University in Indonesia as a Fulbright Scholar.
I am a longtime activist and researcher for NewAgeFraud.org, a human rights organization dedicated for over fifteen years to protecting Native spiritual traditions from abuse and exploitation. We work with tribal elders, governments, and other activist groups such as AIM chapters, American Indian Heritage Support Center, CERTAIN, ICARE, Iron Lodge, Our Red Earth, and Red Road Collective. We are widely used as a resource by tribal governments, universities, museums, activists, and people of all backgrounds. Over the years we have survived numerous death threats, lawsuit threats, smear campaigns, stalking, and online harassment, and always emerged stronger than ever. We never quit or back down from the exploiters and racists who hate us for exposing them.
INTERESTS: I grew up on metal and punk music and have traveled to over three dozen countries in Asia, Europe, and Latin America.
